In order to create my human figure project, I used a mixture of graphite and various colored pencils. I focused on shading, texture, and proportionality. I believe this piece uses mostly contrast, proportion, and emphasis. This is because of the use of bright colors vs. plain graphite.
The meaning of this piece can really be interpreted differently by whoever looks at it. I use a combination of cartoonish, sketchy, and semi-realistic styles. Ultimately what I was thinking throughout the making of this project was to portray the character as if she's running from or refusing to look at the sunset behind her. It was sort of a "you're gonna have to eventually face something that you're afraid of, and you may find that it isn't too bad when you do" type piece. I think my biggest strengths in this piece include the hair texture and the colors in the sunset. As I've never really done anything like what i did with the sunset before, I found it surprisingly well done in the orange and yellow portions for my first time. However, I will say that the proportions of the body and the placement of the hair is way off, and there are strong cutoffs in the sky that make it look less realistic than I intended it to be. Those are just things to work on I suppose. All reference images I used are placed below. |
